About Pon XX Papua Games

The PON Games, or PON abbreviated from (Pekan Olahraga Nasional in Indonesian), is a national sports week that occurs every four years in different regions throughout Indonesia. The National Sports Committee of Indonesia organizes the event, which features athletes from other parts of the country. The event should have occurred in 2020, which had been moved a year later due to the pandemic. This edition took place on the island of Papua for the first time in October. The PON XX Papua Games featured 37 different sports, 56 sports disciplines, and more than 7,000 athletes.

The Role of Backbone

For Backbone, it was the third sports week in the area that the team worked on. For the PON Games, Backbone was responsible for a broad number of responsibilities which ranged from production management, consultancy, technical production and design, and overlay management to COVID-19 mitigation. The team arranged logistics and equipment resourcing at the beginning of July, with transportation for the end of July. Freight arrangements to the island included at least 100 containers with materials, production equipment, and other decors shipped from Java to Jayapura. The project involved a 6-people on-site team on the island that stayed there for 3 months.
